What is the time limit for RTI response?
Public Information Officer (PIO) must respond within 30 days. For matters involving life or liberty, response must be given within 48 hours.
What is the fee for RTI application?
RTI application fee is ₹10 through cash, postal order, or court fee stamps. Additional copying charges apply for documents (₹2 per page).
Can RTI be filed online?
Yes, RTI applications can be filed online through the respective portal of Central or State Information Commissions.
What information is exempted under RTI?
Section 8 of RTI Act exempts information affecting national security, cabinet papers, personal privacy, commercial confidence, etc.
What is the penalty for not providing information?
Information Commission can impose a penalty of ₹250 per day (max ₹25,000) for delay or denial of information without reasonable cause.
Can third party information be disclosed?
Third party information requires notice to the third party under Section 11, who may object to disclosure within 10 days.
